Instructor: Tamara Moan

Saturday March 21st (one session)

10:00 am – 4:00 pm (bring-your-own lunch and snacks)

Construct an accordion-spine flag book using stencil prints for your page design. This sculptural book opens with a WOW factor—pages that open in opposite directions to produce a cascade effect.

We will build a prototype book form with blank pages first to get familiar with the format and construction components. After sketching and refining imagery ideas, weʻll make stencils from your own designs and practice stenciling/stippling techniques using ink pads as the color medium.

We finish by building a second book that includes your stencil imagery plus any additional writing/drawing thatʻs desired. This book form requires honing measurement, cutting, and assembly skills; the stencil technique lends itself to graphic images/shapes and color layering that can be transferred to many other paper-based creations. Those completing the workshop will take away a completed book plus their blank prototype ready to accept added imagery.
