Sundays (3 sessions)

September 13, 20, 27

11 am - 2 pm

Ditch the perfectionism and dive into the beautiful world of chance! Inspired by the wild experimentation of the Dadaists and Surrealists, this high-energy, three-day workshop with Hiroko Sakurai turns "mistakes" into masterpieces. You will learn to let go, play with spontaneity, and use unexpected techniques to create one-of-a-kind monotype prints.

What You Will Do

  • Day 1: Ink, Fold, Reveal! Kick off the weekend with "Rorschach-style" printing. Squash bold blobs of ink, fold your paper, and watch abstract shapes magically transform into extraordinary creatures and landscapes.

  • Day 2: The Great Pull. Master the surrealist technique of decalcomania. Press paint between two plates, pull them apart, and capture stunning, intricate patterns that nature creates for you.

  • Day 3: Collage & Chops. Bring it all together! Cut, paste, collage, and layer your prints to bring them to the next level. As a bonus, learn the traditional art of urauchi—backing your masterpiece with wheat starch paste and delicate washi paper.
