Gel Plate Image Transfers: An Exploration
Instructor: Paula Scott
Technique: In this class, students will learn how to successfully execute image transfers using a gel plate and the various ways in which your image can be manipulated. We will be working with magazine images (but not too extensively), laser and inkjet images. Students will learn all the nuances that are involved in this type of gel plate printing as to what works and why. Students will be introduced to the many factors that can affect a successful image transfer, which magazine publications work best, which laser printers work well, how to do an inkjet transfer, which papers work well and how to process their own images to use with this technique. We will also cover how to do a double exposure. Students will also learn the different ways in which color can be added to their print such as, reverse painting. It will be helpful if the students have a Smartphone or some way to process their images (this will be covered in class).
