"THIS IS NOT A DRILL" Scott Groeniger

Digital archival pigment transfer, on wood panel
12" x 12"

Artist statement:
On Saturday morning, January 13, 2018, at 8:07 a.m., residents of Hawaii received an emergency text message via mobile phone warning of a nuclear ballistic missile launched by North Korea "INBOUND TO HAWAII." This alert was issued via the National Emergency Alert System as well as all commercial cellular mobile alert systems, radio, and television in the U.S. State of Hawaii. The alert firmly stated that there was an incoming ballistic missile threat to Hawaii advising all residents to seek IMMEDIATE shelter, and concluded rather grimly, "THIS IS NOT A DRILL."

Within moments of processing the gravity of this text message, I realized there was not enough time for my wife and I to seek appropriate shelter for nuclear attack and then I realized I was being bitten on the arm by a mosquito. Instead of immediately killing it I decided to enjoy the sublime irony of of the Mosquito in the Act of Biting sucking the life blood as among my last moments on Earth.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL is a digital archival pigment image transfer into an amalgam of ossein gelatin, acrylic polymer medium, and white marble dust on baltic birch panel encapsulated in polymer resin.

All work must be picked up at the UH Manoa Art Gallery on Sunday, February 17, from 10 am to 1 pm. If you require shipping please inquire at duncan@honoluluprintmakers.org for a shipping quote.
