Artist statement:
As a Native Hawaiian who moved to the mainland for college, my plan was to get my degree and bring what I had learned back to my island home. I think that a lot of young Hawaiians would like to do the same - to do their part in perpetuating our beloved culture that has proven resilient for centuries now.

Ua mau ke ea o ka ʻĀina i ka pono, our state motto, echoes this idea that the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness. But in the face of sky-high prices that define the cost of living in “paradise” young Hawaiians are finding it much more difficult to return to our homeland to help maintain our culture. This lot is full.
